- Andrew Johnson was the first president to be impeached. He kept from being removed from office by only one vote.
- When he was 14, he and his brother were sold as servants to a tailor, they had to work for him and in return they would get food, clothing and shelter. After 2 years the boys ran away.
- Johnson was the third Vice President who succeeded to the Presidency because of the death of his predecessor, Abraham Lincoln.
- As of 2008, Johnson is the only President to serve as a U.S. Senator after being President. He was elected to the Senate in 1875. Johnson was able to attend only the one session, however. He suffered a stroke and died on July 31, 1875.
- Andrew Johnson's father died when Andrew was three years old.
