Last month, I wrote about the morale at my work, affectionately called here, the "Mine." Well, it's now as low as it can go. Our parent company, BPI (Beef Products, Inc.) came in on 26 October and closed us down. Completely. 10 years of my life, gone. 2 months from possibly taking overall command, gone. The ability to support my family, gone. But.... I'm still standing. I was only unemployed for 2 days. I'm now an employee of BPI, the parent company. Same salary, same seniority, and much better benefits. Several employees from the "Mine" are here also. Several others were offered employment but chose to decline. I'm still shaking after my first week, even though I really love this new job so far. I've been laid off many times, quit even more times but it still doesn't go easy when you lose your job. One problem though. My entire body hurts. This job is work, with a capital W. Physical work. Mental work. But it still feels good.... And I kept my promise to myself and my crew. I was the last man out that door on 26 October. I left NO ONE behind. The last man standing. Without apology. Thanks for spending part of your day reading about mine.
