IF IT WALKS LIKE A DUCK, QUACKS LIKE A DUCK, IT MUST BE A...SCAM

"You'd think a well versed Internet guru like myself wouldn't fall for this scam, right?"

--- cobraBlog Blogger Extraordinaire Tim Kenney

I got a letter in the mail sometime in October about a local seminar stating it was about learning more about becoming a power seller on eBay. I almost threw it away but it also offered a free dinner. Since I had nothing better to do that Thursday night and there was a free meal involved, I hung on to the letter.

On November 8th, I attended the "free" seminar on how to sell on eBay. I was supposed to go with a potential website client who wanted to know more about making money on eBay. But, fortunately for him, he couldn't go at the last minute. To be honest, I almost left before it started after getting the call he wasn't coming. But there was that free food...

90 minutes later, having had heard almost nothing about eBay and having eaten a cold sandwich with chips, a slimy pickle, and a stale cookie, I found myself handing my credit card to a well dressed con man for a non-refundable $25 processing fee to an all day conference on Internet marketing.

"Make sure you bring your checkbook, you won't want to miss the fantastic offer that day..." the slick con man said.

You'd think a well versed Internet guru like myself wouldn't fall for this scam, right? Well, these guys are flat out good, the best I've ever come across. They even told you the basic costs for their services that night, to "reassure" you that they were legit.

Now, I admit, the idea behind their scam is good but, as you read in a minute, it's not worth the price.

Yesterday, I attended the day long conference. However, I did do my homework this time. After a VERY short search, I came across hundreds of complaints and a few lawsuits against these people. To be fair, there were a few, limited few, that gave the company glowing reports. Also, Storesonline has forged some powerful alliances, including UPS. But they still really worried me.

When I walked up, early I thought, there was already 20 or 30 people there. A quick look at my ID got me my name tag, Internet marketing binder, and a pleasant smile.

I was seated right up front and given a few handouts, as more people filed in. The seat turned out to be perfect, as I had planned on asking some very damning questions every opportunity I got.

After the conference started and after the usual "Hold your questions until the end or we won't be able to finish on time...ha...ha...ha" and the "results are not typical, yours may vary" statement, which was said about 30 times that morning, a very nice con man, who I actually like, started the spiel.

We were all handed a financial form to fill out, "in case we need financing...," and told they would run the credit checks while we were listening to our speaker. We would know the results after lunch but "they usually approve everyone." I'll bet they do.

After about 5 minutes, I knew we were not going to get any real information on Internet marketing, just the build up to letting Storesonline sell, and host for an additional fee, 6 websites for $6000. Yes, six thousand dollars. 6 websites. With all the bells and whistles. All the stuff you can get for free, or almost free, other places....

The information they handed out to go into a slick, but cheap binder, was mostly about their website and it's benefits. There was almost no meat to it. I had hoped the binder might make my spending $25 worth it but it wasn't.

Well, there was always the free "HOT" lunch that was going to be served about 1:30pm. To make a long story short, it wasn't much better than the dinner weeks before but it was a little fresher and it was luke warm. But, even with the binder, the limited REAL info, and that "hot" meal, I felt cheated out of my $25. How would I feel about giving them $6000? Probably like many others: CLICK HERE

The hard sell happened right after lunch. Cattle style, we were herded to a table and told the same things, in a nutshell, we had already heard. "We don't want to wait until late in the day to spring the price on you, we do it now..." a smiling young man told us.

Like that made me feel better. What made me NOT feel better was the statement that Storesonline had "exclusive" use of a "Reverse Search Tool." This is one of the things your money pays for. Opps, I'd already seen, and used, that tool. Storesonline didn't even change the wording or look. It's exactly as you'll see on this FREE link. Right here: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

By the way, if you want to send me 6 grand to use that link, feel free. Any way, I brought that little fact up in our group meeting, along with saying that I was really interested in their 6 website deal but had no credit card or cash. How about financing?

"Well, we need as much as you can put down for this is a one day offer..." they said. "I can only put $50 down..." I said. You never saw anyone bolt so fast. I was now a hot potato that no one wanted to talk to. No money and a "know it all" as one Storesonline guy called me.

But they gave it one more shot at my 1 on 1 "consultation" (which everyone got). Hard sell, even suggesting that I take money out of my 401k to pay rather than financing. I left after that, thinking 6 hours of my time and $25 of my money was already enough wasted that day....

Have you been duped by these guys. If so, tell me your story. I'll start a campaign to spread the truth about them if enough people come forward. Email your story, good or bad, here:
