STUPID IS AS STUPID DOES...?

Let's talk stupid...

Look at the News Page. Two "responsible" parents play video games and "forget" to feed and take care of their kids. Hang 'em, I say. Or starve 'em, even better. Now, that's stupid.

Look at what I'm doing to support my family. 70+ hours a week, going on 12 days without a day off and it's looking like it will be 17 before all is said and done. 16 and a half hours last Sunday. Killing myself. Not that I don't find time to play video games or feed this monster of a website. Now, that's stupid. The hours, I mean. Do I have to do it? Of course not. I could stay home and play Madden 07 or C&C Generals. But I don't.

An Alabama woman dies after falling off a balcony doing a head stand. I think that qualifies as stupid.

People driving down the highway reading newspapers, talking on their cell phones, one teenage girl dies in a car crash because she was test messaging. Stupid? I'd say so...

Two teenagers wait in line 11 DAYS to get the new "Harry Potter" book. Stupid? Yep.

What's going on with us? Why are we doing such idiotic things? "Well, stupid people have been doing stupid things all along." you say?

Yes, they (we) have. But it seems to be getting to epidemic proportions. Maybe Forrest Gump's mom was right after all. Stupid is as stupid does.

I have a friend that thinks President Bush is stupid. I asked her if she votes in elections. "Oh no, I don't have time. I've never voted." she replied. That's stupid.

I have another friend who has never bothered to even register to vote. "They're all a bunch of losers..." he says. Some times I'd agree with him but to not even register to vote. Beyond stupid.

Both of these friends are college graduates, both are smart at what they do, as well as successful. How come they act stupid when it comes to politics?

Because our politicians are feeding off our "stupid." They tell us we're winning a war. They tell us the climate is going to kill us all. They tell us we can't think without them. And, my friends, some of us act like they are right on that point. We take what they say and consider it gospel, without so much as checking the first fact.

We numb our minds with video games, over work, excuses...we numb our minds with sayings like, "politicians are all the same." Could be. But if we don't vote, seek out out what politicians stand for, what they really believe, who's really stupid?

We are. For letting them mislead us. For letting them remain in office when we would hang them if they lived on our street. Letting them remain in office when they lie to us.

Next time you want to bash Bush, kick Kennedy, rap Republicans, or drop kick Democrats, look in the mirror. Did you vote or research your candidate? Or did you just "dumb up" or make excuses.
