In the American Revolutionary War, that would be our war for independence for those of you indoctrinated by our public schools, there were about 4,400 KIA's (killed in action) over 80 months. That's about 660 a year. In the War of 1812 there were about 2, 250 KIA's over 30 months. That's about 900 a year. In the Mexican-American War, there were about 1725 KIA's over 20 months. That is about 1075 a year. The Civil War, for those of you in public schools that would be the war between the states, there were about 184,500 KIA's over 48 months. Because only Americans were involved, that works out to about 46,125 KIA's a year. In the Spanish-American War, there were about 385 KIA's over 4 months. That comes to about 1150 KIA's over a year, had the war lasted that long. The first war to end all wars, World War I, there were about 53,500 KIA's over 19 months. That, my dear blog readers, is about 33,500 KIA's a year. The second war to end all wars, World War II, there were about 292,000 KIA's over 44 months. That works out to about 79,500 KIA's a year. The Korean Conflict saw about 33,500 American dead over 37 months. That would be about 10,800 KIA's each year. Vietnam saw, as we all (should) know, about 59,000 KIA's over 90 months. About 7,800 a year. The first Gulf War saw 148 American soldiers KIA over 1 month. Works out to about 1775 a year, if spanned over a full year. The current War on Terror has had about 3,700 KIA's over about 50 months so far. That, for those of you who don't have a calculator, is about 880 a year. With the understanding that every life is precious and of value, let's look at the numbers so far. Throwing out the low number ( The American Revolution at about 660 a year ) and the high number ( World War II at about 79,500 a year ), we have an average in all wars (except the War on Terror) of about 12, 900 KIA's a year. 12,900 a year versus 880 a year. That means that in all the other wars America has fought, throwing out the high and the low, the KIA's are over 14.5 times the number of KIA's in the War on Terror. That, ladies and gentlemen, is not "spin," it's the numbers. And, as we all know, numbers don't lie. So what's my conclusion? Where has the American will gone? The American public didn't believe in all these wars. They all were not "justifiable." But, even with much heavier casualties, we mostly "stayed the course." So why is there all the protesting and complaining about the War on Terror? "Well, Bush said "mission accomplished" on that aircraft carrier." our liberal friends say. President Bush also said the War on Terror would be a long and difficult struggle. In that very same speech, President Bush said, "The war on terror is not over, yet it is not endless. We do not know the day of final victory, but we have seen the turning of the tide." "Well, we are losing too many American lives." another liberal says. Look at the numbers, my left leaning friend. We are incurring the 2nd lowest KIA rate in our history. "The war on Iraq was not necessary." another Democrat says. From the "Mission Accomplished" speech: "The battle of Iraq is one victory in a war on terror that began on September the 11th, 2001 and still goes on." But only if more Americans find that will to be the defenders of freedom once again...
