PUNKS AND STUFF

"We, as responsible and responsive parents, have to make a choice."

For a moment, the man in the grainy video looks like a good Samaritan holding the door open for an elderly neighbor. Then he turns and delivers three sharp punches to the 101-year-old woman's head.

"The next thing I knew, I had a big bang on the side of my face," said Rose Morat, who suffered a fractured cheekbone and lost her purse and $33 to the mugger.

The attack was captured by a surveillance camera in the lobby of her Queens apartment building.

This absolutely ticks me off. And it should tick you off also.

A young man beats a 101 year old woman for her 33 bucks. What a punk.

Why is this happening in the richest country in the world? It's happening because we are not disciplining our children. Because we are letting our children talk back to us. Because we are letting, no, ENCOURAGING, our children to steal instead of working.

"WHAT!" you exclaim..."Encouraging that behavior?"

Yep. Here's how. It's about stuff, stuff, and more stuff. Gotta have it. Really want it. Need it.

Computers, TV's, cars, and clothes. We have to be better than the Jones's. We have to be better than everyone else. So we work.

Now, there's nothing wrong with work. I even work. But when we work to the determent of our children, to the determent to spending real quality time with our children, we should expect those same children to grow up "warped."

"Hey, my kids are growing up with respect for adults." you say.

Great. I'm not saying that all children are being affected. Just a bunch of them. "Turn key" kids are becoming rampant in the US.

The "Home Alone" movies show us the humorous things that can happen when we leave our kids to their own devices. But it's not always humorous things that occur in a home where the parents are not present to control all situations with their kids.

"I'm trying to make a better life for my family." some might say.

Really? What is the most important thing in a home?

FAMILY. You can replace all your stuff if you need to. But you can't replace that kid that overdoses on drugs his / her buddy gave them. You can't help that kid that's in jail for beating up a 101 year old woman. You can't help that kid that hates you because you never had time for him / her.

We, as responsible and responsive parents, have to make a choice. Where is our real treasure? At work? Or home alone, possibly learning how to be a criminal? Or watching how to be one on TV.

Our kids need our discipline. WE need discipline. We need to teach our children that they need to work but also that they need to practice "family" first. And they need to see that in our own actions. And they need to see that in our love for them.

And to the punk that beat up that 101 year old woman, I've got some "love" to show you, punk. And I'll even pay you more than 33 bucks for the pleasure of "explaining" the problem to you. Let me show you how a man deals with punks like you. And if you get roughed up a little, so much the better.

I believe you're a lamb trying to look like a lion. And I love to "tame" lions like you... So sue me...

Thanks for spending part of your day reading about mine.

Really? Better look in the mirror, Senator Clinton.
