Where do you even start with this "preacher?" Fred Phelps Sr. of Westboro, Kansas Baptist Church. You can find information on his "teachings" in such loving places as www.godhatesfags.com and numerous other hate websites. When I first heard of this person, I have to admit, I was ashamed to be a fundamental Baptist like him. Not ashamed of what being a Baptist stands for but being associated with someone like him. He is only a Baptist in name though. Now, understand, I think this nation is in sad shape, really sad shape. God does hate sin. But not sinners. He sent His only Son to die for ALL sinners. To pay the price that we all owe as sinners. But ALL sinners have the opportunity to be saved. If they accept the gift of God, eternal life. In one of Mr. Phelps "sermons," he says that "...unconditional election. The only people who will be saved are those God chooses to save." Wrong. The Bible I read says that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. {Romans 10:13} That, in a nutshell, says that anyone, ANYONE, who seeks the Lord and asks Him into their heart WILL be saved, not just those who God has "elected." Elect simply means those who God prefers, i.e. the ones He prefers, not the ones He has "picked." Strike one... "It is too late for America," Phelps says. Really? Then it's very odd that my King James Bible says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." {2 Chronicles 7:14} Strike two... "If you have to end an adulterous relationship (including every person who is divorced and remarried with an original spouse still living), do it!" Phelps says. Well, once again my Bible tells me different. In Matthew 19:9, Christ Himself says, "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery." Let's see, that seems to me, although I'm not a Bible scholar, that divorced people can remarry if adultery is committed. Strike three... And you're out Mr. Phelps. One last time, let's look at what the Bible, that would be God's Word Mr. Phelps, says about preachers who teach the wrong doctrine and insert their own brand of "preaching.". "For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall show signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect." {Mark 13:22} Mr. Phelps, I propose that you, sir, are one of those "false Christs" that the real Christ is speaking of in this verse. And, if you really know your Bible, you know what will happen to those "false Christs" don't you. "And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." {Revelation 22:19} Where do you think that leaves you, Mr. Phelps? One last thing, sir. I point you to our Lord Jesus Christ and one thing He said about hating our "enemies" and those who really are sinners and persecute us. "But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you," {Luke 6:27} Maybe if you stopped hating so much, you might be able to hear what the Savior is really telling you...
